GRADE 3 - HISTORY & GEOGRAPHY
3rd Grade History & Geography is an exploration of the regions of the United States. Lessons include the study of mountains, rivers, fields, plants, animals, and people in each U.S. region.
The lessons give students an overview of the United States; feature lessons on map reading skills, age-appropriate vocabulary and provide an understanding of what makes each area in the United States unique.

GRADE 3 - LANGUAGE ARTS
3rd Grade Language Arts focuses on sequential development and the integration of communication skills in the major areas of reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
The lessons give students an introduction to basic reading skills, as well as reading strategies to use in short stories, a short play, poetry, and fables.
Students use graphic organizers to follow the writing process to write for a variety of genres. In addition, the course focuses on teaching research strategies and learning verbal communication skills through a variety of projects.

GRADE 3 - MATH
3rd Grade Math is a full-year elementary course focusing on number skills and numerical literacy. Students gain solid experience with number theory and operations, learning how to apply these in measurement situations. The course also integrates geometric concepts and skills throughout the units, as well as introducing students to statistical concepts.
Great at teaching the basics, this online course builds firm foundations of understanding future math concepts with engaging illustrations and attention-grabbing content.

GRADE 3 - SCIENCE
3rd Grade Science is a basic elementary course that exposes students to the designs and patterns in the physical universe. This course provides a broad survey of the major areas of science, including the human body, plants, animals, health and nutrition, matter, sound waves, earth science, and heat energy.
This online course contains experiments and projects to capitalize on children’s natural curiosity. Additional topics studied include the human body systems, how sound travels, the phases of matter, and much more.

GRADE 3 - LANGUAGE ARTS
SPELLING
3rd Grade Spelling delves into relevant spelling rules and word families throughout 30 weeks of instruction. Students not only practice phonics skills, including syllabication and sounding out multisyllabic words, but also incorporate word parts such as prefixes and suffixes. These lessons also reinforce language arts skills including application of the writing process and reading comprehension.
Each unit represents a specific spelling rule or word family. Each unit contains five short assignments per week that can be taught as a stand-alone course or can easily integrate with the Calvert 3rd Grade Language Arts curriculum. Lessons and projects include multimedia to support the content, as well as incorporation of rubrics and positive messages for students that can support character education requirements.

GRADE 4 - HISTORY & GEOGRAPHY
4th Grade History & Geography focuses on world geography, describing the surface of the earth and its natural features or biomes. It also teaches about cultural distinctions, placing special emphasis on North American geography and culture.
Then, expanding on instruction, it presents a survey of earth and space explorations. These areas of focus target the three major content strands of geography, history, and social studies skills.

GRADE 4 - LANGUAGE ARTS
4th Grade Language Arts students continue to build fluency and independent reading skills by further developing comprehension strategies via a wide variety of genres, including fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Using a more complex paragraph structure and integrated application of their speaking skills, students also write in a variety of genres like fictional stories, poetry, and an informational report.
Throughout this online course, students explore persuasive text, the elements of poetry, comprehension strategies, and more!

GRADE 4 - MATH
4th Grade Math is a full-year elementary course focusing on number skills and numerical literacy. Students gain solid experience with number theory and operations, including decimals and fractions. This course also integrates geometric concepts and skills throughout the units, teaches measurement skills, and introduces students to statistical concepts.
Throughout this online course students learn to compare and convert fractions, identify the qualities of shapes and angles, use different types of graphs, and much more!

GRADE 4 - SCIENCE
Building on fundamental concepts, 4th Grade Science provides a broad survey of the major areas of science, including the study of plants and animals, ecology, work and simple machines, electricity and magnetism, properties of water and matter, weather, the solar system, and the different spheres of earth.
The online curriculum seeks to develop students’ ability to understand and participate in scientific inquiry. The units contain experiments and projects to capitalize on children’s natural curiosity.

GRADE 4 - LANGUAGE ARTS
SPELLING
4th Grade Spelling is a 30-week course of instruction that practices phonics skills, including vowel combinations and sounding out multisyllabic words, as well as incorporation of word parts such as prefixes and suffixes. Units include review of base and root words, plural nouns, and homophones.
Each unit represents a specific spelling rule or word family. Each unit contains five short assignments per week that can be taught as a stand-alone course or can easily integrate with the Calvert 4th Grade Language Arts curriculum. Lessons and projects include multimedia to support the content, as well as incorporation of rubrics for clear assessment.

GRADE 5 - HISTORY & GEOGRAPHY
5th Grade History & Geography focuses on the two major areas of American history and geography. The course covers American history from early exploration through the Reconstruction, with special emphasis given to inventions and technology of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
This online course also studies the geography of the Americas with a focus on the native cultures and history of Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean, as well as an exploration of the unique geography, climate, populations, and economy of each region of the United States.

GRADE 5 - LANGUAGE ARTS
5th Grade Language Arts places special attention on reading non-fiction texts. Students identify text features and explain how graphic elements lead to comprehension and continue to build grammar skills in support of clear communication.
In addition, speaking skills are built upon through memorization and recitation of Abraham Lincoln’s powerful Gettysburg Address. Students also learn what good communication is and how to practice this in all areas of their lives.

GRADE 5 - MATH
5th Grade Math is a full-year elementary course focusing on number skills and numerical literacy, and geometric concepts. Students gain solid experience with number theory and operations, including whole numbers, decimals, and fractions.
In addition, students develop their understanding of measurement, as well as two-dimensional and three-dimensional figures. This course also integrates mathematical practices throughout each unit, while introducing students to algebraic, statistical, and probability concepts.

GRADE 5 - SCIENCE
5th Grade Science provides a broad survey of the major areas of science, including the study of cells, plants and animals, ecology, energy, geology, properties of matter, and the natural cycles of life. The curriculum seeks to develop students' ability to understand and participate in scientific inquiry.
Students at this level should begin to understand interrelationships between organisms, recognize patterns in ecosystems, and become aware of the cellular dimensions of living systems. Collectively, this helps students develop and build on their subject-matter knowledge base.

GRADE 5 - LANGUAGE ARTS
SPELLING
